WEEK OF NOVEMBER 20, 2022

 

Reminders:

 

 

  •            Please make sure your child has two extra changes of clothes, including underwear, tops bottoms and socks.
  •          Please always make sure that your child walks into the school building with a mask

 

  •          Drop off in the morning is between 7:45 and 8:00 am.  Dismissal is at 2:45 pm.
  •         Wednesday, November 23, 2022, After School program closes at 5:00 pm

  •          Please remember to bring back the sleeping mats to school.

  •          Canned Food Drive November 2022. Our annual canned food drive to assist the food pantry at Notre Dame Church has begun. Please send in whatever canned food that you may not be in need of so that Notre Dame Church may distribute for Thanksgiving. Please bring them before Wednesday 23, 2022.

·        School will be closed on Thursday, November 24th, and November 25th for Thanksgiving.

Focused Learning Activity for the Week:

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the art center.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What is your favorite part or place in our school? Why to do you choose this area? What friend(s) would you like to go or play there? How do you feel playing or there?

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompting answers and asked children recognize What is their favorite place or area they love to play or visit at school? For example, "The teacher will invite children to make a sculpture of their favorite place or area at school using playdough to represent it." This activity will help children to recognize favorite things they love to do with their friends. The teacher will ask children what things they love to do together? The teacher will write whatever they express.

 

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question What is your favorite place at schools?" What friend(s) do you like to go or play there?? What things would you like to do together? Children will have the opportunity to explain what they know in long sentences; the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever they say. The teacher will invite children to draw children the favorite things they love to do together as well as they favorite place.

 

ELL Students: Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer.

Foundational Text for the Week:

Standard Addressed: P-SE 11. Child has sense of belonging to family, community and other groups.

WEEKLY FOUNDATIONAL TEXT:

 

Counting On Community by Innosanto Nagara (author and illustrator): Counting up from one stuffed piñata to ten hefty hens while always counting on each other.

 What are some things they counted in this book?

What are some of the things we can count in our classroom?

What are some things you can do to take care of our classroom?

What are some ways you and on can count on (or help) each other?

 

Learning Centers Available for the Theme:

 

Blocks- Children are encouraged to explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up.

 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props and clothing provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away.

 

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush, and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting.

 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished.

 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away.

 

Library- Students can explore books from the classroom library.

 

Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards.

 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom.  Students will be prompted to wash their hands before and after using the sand table.
