Exploration Topic: Our Impact

Essential Question: How do my actions impact growth and change?

Focus Area: Grow

Weekly Focus:  Self

How am I helping the children notice the ways they have grown this year (e.g., taller, able to do new things)?

How am I learning and recording what excites children about their own growth?

How am I helping the children explore their interests about their own growth?

What materials can I provide to support this exploration?

Focused Learning Activity for The Week:

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the science area. At the beginning of the school, The teacher measures each child to keep records of their height. The teacher will measure each child again to notice how much they grew. In the classroom, we have a family tree, and children have their pictures taken when they were babies, the teacher will have their actual pictures, then the teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What differences can you notice from both pictures (the baby, and the actual picture)? Tell me more? How can you help your body to grow? What things can help your body to grow? What food can help your body to grow healthily?

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompting answers and asked children What differences they can notice from their babies pictures and their actual pictures?  How can their body grow? For example, "The teacher will invite children to sit in the science area, and she will show children some pictures of children (when they are babies, infants, toddlers, etc.) then the teacher will ask children What can you do to help your body to grow? The teacher will write whatever they express.

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "How can your body grow?" What things can you teach others to help them to take care of their body ? Tell me more about it? What do you notice about it? Children will have the opportunity to explain what they know in long sentences; the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever they say.

ELL Students: Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer.
