WEEK OF JANUARY 29, 2023

 

Reminders:

 

 

·       Please make sure your child has two extra changes of clothes, including underwear, tops bottoms and socks.

·       Please always make sure that your child walks into the school building with a mask

·       Drop off in the morning is between 7:45 and 8:00 am.  Dismissal is at 2:45 pm.

·       Please remember to bring back the sleeping mats to school.

 

·       Valentine’s Day Assemblies Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 9:30. (Parents are invited).

 

·       Dismissal will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, February 10th. The doors will open at 11:45am

 

·       There is no after-school program on Friday, February 10th

 

·       Parent-teacher conferences will be on Friday, February 10th from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. 

 

·       In -person meetings 1pm-3pm.  Virtual meetings 3pm-6pm.

Focused Learning Activity for the Week:

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the science area.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What can you explore using the magnify glasses? Close one eyes and look to your hand, what do you see? What do you notice about it? the teacher will invite children to explore objects of their preferences and will ask what different things they notice when they use the magnify glasses in an object or toy?

 

 

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompting answers and asked children Close one eyes and look to your hand? For example, "The teacher will invite children to sit on the science center, and she will invite children to use the magnify glasses, then the teacher will ask children What they notice about them? The teacher will write whatever they express.

 

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question What can you explore using the magnify glasses?" What do you discover about the object? What do you notice about it? Children will have the opportunity to explain what they know in long sentences; the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever they say. The teacher will invite children to observe objects using magnify glasses and express their results.

 

ELL Students: Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer.

 

 

Foundational Text for the Week:

 

Standard Addressed: P-LC 6. Child understands and uses a wide variety of words for a variety of purposes.

 

WEEKLY FOUNDATIONAL TEXT:

Wait by Antoinette Portis: As a boy and his mother move quickly through the city, they are drawn to different things.

In this story, who was in a hurry and wanted to move quickly?

Why do you think the mom in this story was in a hurry?

In this story, who moved slowly and noticed many things? What did he notice?

 

Learning Centers Available for the Theme:

 

Blocks- Children are encouraged to explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up.

 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props and clothing provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away.

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush, and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting.

 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished.

 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away.

 

Library- Students can explore books from the classroom library.

 

Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards.

 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom.  Students will be prompted to wash their hands before and after using the sand table.
