WEEK OF MARCH 26, 2023

 Reminders:

 

 

·   Please make sure your child has two extra changes of clothes, including underwear, tops, bottoms and socks.

·   Please always make sure that your child walks into the school building with a mask

·   Drop off in the morning is between 7:45 and 8:00 am.  Dismissal is at 2:45 pm.

·   Please remember to bring back the sleeping mats to school.

                           Easter Recess March 31st– April 14th. 

                          Students return Monday April 17, 2023.

·   No Summer Programs will be offered this Summer.

Exploration Topic: Our Environment

 

Essential Question: What can we discover about community?

 

Focus Area: Moving

 

Weekly Focus:  Noticing Things That Move

 

Focused Learning Activity for The Week:

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the science area.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "How do vehicles move? What does need a car to move? What kind of vehicles do you know? What kind of vehicles can we use to move? Which one do you prefer to use to move? And why? What vehicles can move faster? And What can move slowly?

 

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompting answers and asked children What they can notice about things that move? For example, "The teacher will invite children to sit in the science center, and she will show children some toy vehicles we have in the classroom such as cars, trains, airplanes, boats, construction trucks, etc. then the teacher will ask children? What do they notice about it? The teacher will write whatever they express.

 

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "What vehicles do you use to move through the city?" What kind of vehicles do you know? What do you notice about it? What vehicles can help you to move through the city faster? Children will have the opportunity to explain what they know in long sentences; the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever they say.

 

ELL Students: Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer.

Standard Addressed: P-LIT 5. Child asks and answers questions about a book that was read aloud. 

Let’s Go for a Drive! By Mo Willens: Gerald and Piggie want to go for a drive!

What were some of the things that Gerald and Piggie needed for their drive?

What was the one thing that Gerald and Piggie needed but didn’t have?

Have you ever been on a drive in a car? Where did you go?

Learning Centers Available for the Theme: 

Blocks- Children are encouraged to explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up.

 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props and clothing provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away.

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush, and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting.

 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished.

 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away.

 

Library- Students can explore books from the classroom library.

 

Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards.

 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom.  Students will be prompted to wash their hands before and after using the sand table.
