WEEK OF JANUARY 8, 2023

 

Reminders:

 

 

·       Please make sure your child has two extra changes of clothes, including underwear, tops bottoms and socks.

·       Please always make sure that your child walks into the school building with a mask

·       Drop off in the morning is between 7:45 and 8:00 am.  Dismissal is at 2:45 pm.

·       Please remember to bring back the sleeping mats to school.

 

·       -Flu Vaccine Required for all students in PreK and Kindergarten.

Under New York State and City Health codes all PreK and Kindergarten students are required to have an annual Flu shot.

Students will be required to remain at home until proof is provided that your child has received the Flu vaccine.

 

·       Flu Vaccine

Parents of students in PreK and Kindergarten - please remember that your child must have the flu vaccine to return to school.

Documentation must be presented to the school office before the child enters school for the day.

Focused Learning Activity for the Week:

 

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the writing center.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What things or area in the classroom the children most interested in? It will give children the opportunity to explore things around them in special the ones that children feel identify with.

 

 

 

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompting answers and asked children what things or objects they are interested in the classroom? For example, "The teacher will invite children to sit on the writing center, and she will ask children what things they love to do the most in the classroom, then the teacher will show pictures of the children working in those areas, and children will have the opportunity to talk about it. For example, the teacher will bring the objects they play with to support them more and will invite children to talk about them. The teacher will ask children what they can notice about these objects and why they like about them? The teacher will write whatever they express.

 

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question What things or objects in the classroom you feel interested working with?" Why? What do you notice about them?  Children will have the opportunity to explain what they know in long sentences; the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever they say. The teacher will invite children to draw an object about what Objects they love the most in the classroom.

 

ELL Students: Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer.

 

 

Foundational Text for the Week:

 

Standard Addressed: P-SCI 3. Child compares categorizes observable phenomena.

 

WEEKLY FOUNDATIONAL TEXT:

Red is a Dragon: A Book of Colors by Roseanne Greenfield Thong: A young girl finds a rainbow of colors in her everyday life.

There are so many colors in this book. What are some of the colors the girl in this book sees in her life?

I remember the child taking about sneakers. What color are your shoes? Find someone else in our room who has the same color shoes as you.

The child also notices purple clouds in the sky. Have you ever seen purple clouds? What other colors clouds be?

 

Learning Centers Available for the Theme:

 

Blocks- Children are encouraged to explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up.

 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props and clothing provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away.

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush, and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting.

 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished.

 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away.

 

Library- Students can explore books from the classroom library.

 

Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards.

 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom.  Students will be prompted to wash their hands before and after using the sand table.
