WEEK OF DECEMBER 4, 2022

 

Reminders:

 

·       Please make sure your child has two extra changes of clothes, including underwear, tops bottoms and socks.

·       Please always make sure that your child walks into the school building with a mask

·       Drop off in the morning is between 7:45 and 8:00 am.  Dismissal is at 2:45 pm.

·       Please remember to bring back the sleeping mats to school.

·       Friday, December 15, 2022 - 10:00 AM Class Assemblies Celebrating the Holidays of Christmas, Hanukah, and Kwanza Parents Invited.

·       -Flu Vaccine Required for all students in PreK and Kindergarten.

Under New York State and City Health codes all PreK and Kindergarten students are required to have an annual Flu shot by December 1st.

Students will be required to remain at home until proof is provided that your child has received the Flu vaccine.

Focused Learning Activity for the Week:

 

 

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the science center.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "Do you have a favorite color? What is it? Why do you like that color? What colors can you see in the classroom?

 

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompting answers and asked children what is their favorite color? For example, "The teacher will invite children to sit on the science table, and she will read the picture book called, "Mix it Up" by Herve Tullet. This book shows step by step how to build more colors mixing the colors. this book will help children visualized how we can create new colors mixing the primary colors. The teacher will ask children what are they favorite colors? Why? The teacher will write whatever they express.

 

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question Do you have a favorite color? What is it?" Why do you choose that color?  Children will have the opportunity to explain what they know in long sentences; the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever they say. The teacher will invite children to mix colors children and ask what new color they made.

ELL Students: Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer.

 

Foundational Text for the Week:

 

Standard Addressed: P-LC 7. Child shows understanding of word categories and relationships among words.

 

WEEKLY FOUNDATIONAL TEXT:

 Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr, and Eric Cale: A green frog, purple cat, blue horse, and a yellow duck parade across the pages of this book.

In this book there are lots of animals. Which ones have you seen before? Where?

There are also lots of colors in this book. Let's look and some of them together and see if we can find these colors in our classroom.

We saw lots of colors in this book. Do you have a favorite color? What is it? Why do you like that color?

 

Learning Centers Available for the Theme:

 

Blocks- Children are encouraged to explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up.

 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props and clothing provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away.

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush, and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting.

 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished.

 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away.

 

Library- Students can explore books from the classroom library.

 

Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards.

 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom.  Students will be prompted to wash their hands before and after using the sand table.
